Heavy fuel oil

Heavy fuel oil (HFO) is used offshore for driving large marine engines. The high viscosity of HFO is a special challenge for injection systems. In addition, marine emission targets are becoming increasingly stricter. They can be complied with by reducing the fuel’s sulfur content, by internal engine measures, or by exhaust-gas treatment. In so called Emission Control Areas which are often close to the coast, regulations can be so strict that only diesel fuel can be used.

Bosch offers heavy-fuel-oil injection systems which help to effectively fulfill upcoming emission demands such as IMO 2 and IMO 3. One important aspect is the ease in which the engine can be converted.
